Pain, fatigue, mood, nausea, bowel function, walking ability, general condition, body temperature and mental status were all recorded before and on postoperative days 1-5. In general, all patient groups experienced a recovery with a multidimensional time course. Postoperative pain was the most severe in the bariatric group, whereas convalescence was fastest after gynaecologic procedures. Patients scheduled for gynaecologic surgery experienced less pain, more good mood and more regular bowel movements than the other patient groups, whereas patients scheduled for herniotomy reported more pain and bowel disturbances. In conclusion, postoperative convalescence seems to be individual and dependent on the type of intervention and the surgical procedure itself.Q:
