The AutoCAD Architecture is a 1:1 representation of the real world and is composed of a network of objects, which can be viewed, manipulated, and combined together in various ways. The objects can be “connected” to form entities. Each object has a unique label (also called tags) which is associated with certain properties. Objects can be grouped together, and their relationships are depicted by the use of arcs or arrows, called entities. Image processing is performed in the AutoCAD application. This review discusses the nature of interactions between glycoconjugates and mucins that may be involved in cell function. Glycoconjugates and mucins can be defined as (a) glycoconjugates that contain carbohydrate chains covalently linked to a protein, and (b) glycoproteins or mucins that contain carbohydrate chains linked non-covalently to a protein. The high affinity for carbohydrate chains of certain glycoproteins and mucins may be responsible for their appearance in body fluids, where these glycoproteins and mucins probably protect cells against pathogenic microorganisms. The carbohydrate-protein linkage in some glycoproteins and mucins may also provide a selective recognition or adhesion to other cells. Among the interactions between glycoproteins and mucins, the carbohydrate-protein linkage may be involved in the adhesion of normal cells to their extracellular matrix (basement membrane). This may be a possible mechanism for control of cell migration in epithelia. The carbohydrate-protein linkage in some mucins may also be involved in cell recognition, though its role in cell-cell adhesion is not known. The function of glycoconjugates and mucins in disease states is discussed in view of recent findings of the presence of carbohydrate chains on abnormal mucin glycoproteins in several types of cancer.Hi everyone!
