There are many ways to use the AutoCAD product, but you probably want to use the two-dimensional modeling features to build, view, and modify your design. The tools in AutoCAD are divided into two categories: those used to create objects and those used to modify objects. AutoCAD has many more tools for creating objects than for modifying them. By contrast, 2D modeling tools are usually about half as many as 3D modeling tools. Here is a list of AutoCAD tools:

Make and break by clipping surfaces, marked edges, arcs, rectangles, and circles. When you make a new object, or move an existing object, you may want to draw a frame around the object (from the Specials menu). You can also use the Clipping option to mark edges or surfaces so they will not be clipped when you make objects or modify an existing object. AutoCAD supports different types of clipping, including:
You can use the Clipping editor to make different types of clips. The diagram shows how to create a rectangular clipping by clicking on the rectangle. Clicking the button on the right side of the drawing window opens the clipping editor for that clipping style.
By selecting a region and pressing the Enter button, you create a clipping from that region. You can then use the Clipping menu to change the type of clipping, move the clipping, or remove the clipping.
To make a selection that is different from the original object, first select the original object and press Ctrl+Shift+[ to select the clipping as well. From the menu, choose Make New. The object appears highlighted, and you can modify it as usual.
You can select a clipping from any object. Click on the object, and from the menu, choose Make New Clipping. The result is the same as selecting the object first.
Using the Clip tool, you can create and delete clipping of arcs, rectangles, or circles. Click on an arc, rectangle, or circle, and then press the Enter button to create a clipping.

Extensions
AutoCAD allows extensions to extend its functionality. These extensions are published as software components and can be published to the application store Autodesk Exchange Apps or they can be loaded directly from a CD/DVD or web server, with no download required.
Plans
AutoCAD 2017 introduced a new license price based on the number of seats and the number of users. This license price was introduced to replace the former per seat or per user licensing model. A new license model will remain for add-ons and for use with Visual LISP.
