AutoCAD did not ship with a price tag, but it was available for $100 more than an equivalent program that could run on the Apple II, Commodore 64 or IBM PC.
Since its inception, AutoCAD has been available in three editions: Professional, Deluxe, and Premier. At Autodesk’s request, “AutoCAD” was shortened to “AutoCAD” and the “AutoCAD” logos and language were dropped from the brand in 2009.
In 2012, Autodesk announced a new version of AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, for users with less sophisticated needs. AutoCAD LT was later renamed to AutoCAD Architecture.
In 2017, Autodesk announced that they had dropped the AutoCAD naming system and branded all the software programs with the “AutoCAD” name.
Versions
The versions available for the computer systems shown in the table below are as of 2019. All AutoCAD versions are listed here with their release date.
The letters “D” and “S” (or “P”) stand for “Desktop,” “Server,” or “PC,” respectively. “Deluxe” and “Premium” versions of AutoCAD are designed for high-end, high-end graphics workstations; “Professional” is designed for workstations with medium graphics capabilities; and “Standard” is designed for workstations with less than medium graphics capabilities.
