As of the version 2015.4.1, AutoCAD includes features similar to most desktop applications, such as document properties, blocks, dimensions, styles, dimension styles, and so on. It also includes features similar to most PC CAD applications, such as importing and exporting data, associating data to objects, and so on.
AutoCAD runs on Windows and macOS. It is available for the following operating systems: Windows 7 or later, Windows 8 or later, Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 or later, and macOS 10.7 or later. You can also purchase a perpetual license for macOS and Linux. To learn about AutoCAD, please see the articles listed in the Products section of this article.

1. Navigation
1.1. Common Features
The interface includes several common features that are also found in other common graphical interfaces. See Figure 1.1.

AutoCAD has three main navigational options: menus, toolbars, and the status bar. Each of these features enables you to navigate your drawing or model. See the section “Navigating” for more information.
1.2. Navigation
You can use the main menu bar to perform most of the common tasks in AutoCAD. The main menu bar (Figure 1.2) consists of 12 buttons, arranged in four rows. You can access this area by pressing Alt+F, or by pressing the menu bar button on the keyboard.

Each button on the menu bar is a command in the AutoCAD command language. Pressing the buttons performs the command and closes the current selection or tool. If you press the space bar, the menu bar button opens the selection/tool menu. You can use the keyboard to perform some tasks more quickly than selecting the appropriate button. For more information, see the sections “Command-Type Commands” and “Quick Access Toolbar”.
1.3. Menus and Toolbars
The menus are collections of commands that enable you to perform a specific task. A menu is composed of three elements: the title, the command button, and the submenu. The menu and the toolbar are similar in that they both represent collections of commands.
.NET Autodesk Exchange Applications, is a collection of.NET based AutoCAD Add-Ons that allow you to view and manipulate AutoCAD data outside of the host application. This type of application is most often used in a Web application where the web browser acts as a UI. Microsoft has also created an API called.NET for AutoCAD which they market as an API that was built specifically to support the web applications based on.NET.
Command-line interface
AutoCAD has a command-line utility (AutoLISP) that allows you to create, edit and view files using a series of commands. For example, the following command will open a drawing file and display its properties:
acsad filename.dwg
In addition to the primary file opened, AutoCAD keeps track of all other opened drawings. For example, the following command would show the main drawing and three copies of the drawing file, under the name of the drawing’s folder:
acsad -file_list
