History of AutoCAD
The first version of AutoCAD was produced by Amos Computers, a small company, in 1982. It was originally designed to aid users of its own software, AmosDraw, and the customer base of the company was limited to AutoDesk customers. The first version of AutoCAD was primarily an application for AutoDesk users. The first user of AutoCAD was Dick Ware, who was one of the cofounders of AutoDesk. He used the program to produce house plans, and then, he and his colleagues, taught others how to use AutoCAD.
The first version of AutoCAD lacked many features because the company was small and focused on developing the application for AutoDesk customers. In 1985, AutoDesk developed a program for users of other design software, which included support for other applications, such as drafting or engineering applications. The company renamed the program AutoCAD and changed the pricing structure. It is now an integrated suite of programs for use in design and architecture, architecture and engineering, graphics, and multimedia. The company sells the program to customers worldwide.

AutoCAD grew out of the application AutoLISP, which was launched in October 1982 and initially was only available on HP’s 8100 LISP based computers. In March 1985, AutoCAD was launched in the world.
Major versions
For major releases, a period usually follows the release number with a dash and then a version number; for minor releases, the period usually follows the release number with a slash and then the version number. For example, 15.0.1 is version 15 of AutoCAD’s major release, and 15.1 is a minor release. After 3.5.1, the minor release was not numbered (3.5.2 is an example of a major release that has no minor release), as the developers opted to skip the minor release and release 3.5.2 to maintain the legacy numbering of the development branch.

Saving design changes
Before:
You saved your current drawing.
Then you saved it again.
Now:
You can save all of your drawings at once.
Design changes in AutoCAD Architecture are stored in a separate file called the Active Work Area file. You can safely make changes, test them, and then discard them, by deleting the Active Work Area file. The changes are automatically saved in your current drawing.
With AutoCAD Architecture you no longer need to save your current drawing. You can open your design changes from a different part of the same drawing, or from a different drawing altogether.
You can save your drawing in your current drawing.
You can now save your drawing in an archive, with an option to delete the saved drawing later.
Design changes are saved to a separate file called the Active Work Area file.
You can safely make changes, test them, and then discard them by deleting the Active Work Area file. The changes are automatically saved in your current drawing.
