AutoCAD was originally designed to be used as an automatic drafting tool, although it has been expanded to other types of design. The current version is AutoCAD 2016, released in 2016.
AutoCAD is designed to let users create two-dimensional (2D) drawings using a mouse and keyboard. Users create various shapes and draw lines and other geometric shapes and objects. To make plans and create views, users have the ability to turn drawings into views in a process called perspective drawing.
This guide is for AutoCAD 2016. For older versions of AutoCAD, see Autodesk University/AU2017/AU2016/AU2015.
AutoCAD is available on the Internet as a free download and as a licensed software product. Autodesk provides a free 30-day trial version of AutoCAD.
AutoCAD has many basic and advanced features. Some of these features are explained in this guide.

INTRODUCTION
Although AutoCAD’s primary use is drafting and detailing, it has also been used for many other types of drawings, including making maps, creating architectural drawings, creating 3D drawings, creating brochures, logos, and advertisements. For more information, see AutoCAD Online Training.
GETTING STARTED
Use the program’s Setup function to choose a default operating system, and then start the program.
You can use the shortcut menu on the menu bar or press the F10 key.
Autodesk recommends that you create a new AutoCAD session to reduce the risk of losing all of your work.
To do this, use the AutoCAD session settings.
1. On the menu bar, choose Session | Open Session.
The Open Session dialog box opens.
If the location of the file you want to open is not in the list, make sure you have selected the directory from which you want to open the session file.
2. In the Open Session dialog box, choose a location.
Note: If you want to open a new session, click the AutoCAD session settings icon ( ) to display the Session Settings dialog box and click General.
In the General tab, check the Start a New Session check box, and then click OK.
Limitations
Users are able to export a drawing from AutoCAD R16 only to Microsoft Windows and AutoCAD-compatible formats.
In recent version AutoCAD, users can export to proprietary file formats, such as AutoCAD MEP file format, BIM, VRML, and CAMEO.
Users can create PDFs from AutoCAD drawings and insert text and images from the document.
History
AutoCAD was created by John Danskin, a member of the Autodesk corporation and the first to release it commercially.
AutoCAD V. 2 was released in 1992.
In the 21st century, AutoCAD 2000 was released on May 22, 2002; its successor, AutoCAD 2015, was released on August 14, 2013.

Create keynotes for drawing creation and give your keynotes the flexibility to move drawings. Make keynotes for all parts of the drawing and change their transparency automatically.

A new feature is the ability to move drawings in freehand using a feature called “Freehand”. The user can create an arc, a circle, a line, or any line in freehand. In addition, you can draw freehand, using the middle mouse button. As you move the cursor around the drawing, the line you create appears on screen. If you place the cursor on a previously drawn line, the drawing appears to have a notch cut out of it. You can “fill in” the drawing to make a closed shape, or move the cursor in the desired direction to open the drawn line.
The user can then move the drawing and the line appears to be attached to the selected object. It is also possible to move a line and shift the object you move the line attached to.
