Business use
AutoCAD is used for design, drafting, and documentation. It is the standard CAD system in many industries such as architecture, construction, engineering, and manufacturing. AutoCAD is used by companies to draw and visualize three-dimensional (3D) architectural and engineering models of their product, and it is used by manufacturers to create, edit and manage 2D technical drawings.
AutoCAD is also used to create and publish content on Autodesk’s websites, as well as on social networks like Facebook.
CAD software includes AutoCAD and various third-party extensions. One of the most important extensions is DWG 2010 by Autodesk.
History
AutoCAD traces its history to the 1982 college student project at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. Autodesk purchased Maxon in 1993. AutoCAD drawing files are created by using Extensible Graphics Language (XGL) and Xforms. After AutoCAD 2000, XGL was replaced with a proprietary GIS, referred to as Xpress, and Xforms was replaced with two new packages, Xpress Forms and Xpress2.
Autodesk Software Architect Dan Besaw was a grad student at the university. He described the problem of the college student that he met in 1982:
Besaw and his fellow student Terry Wollman decided to create a new company that would develop a program that would facilitate the drawing of architectural models. The project was named Project X, and the first version of Project X was released in 1983. The software was designed to run on the Xerox Alto personal computer. The small number of users on the computer and the fact that the program was not entirely ready for production led to delays in releasing it, and Project X was renamed AutoCAD in 1985. The company changed its name to Autodesk in 1986.
To download drawings, the customer needed to upload a text file of the drawings using FTP. In 1987, the company released AutoCAD 1987 as a stand-alone software product. The software was bundled with a floppy disk containing the AutoCAD installation program, the drawing text file, and the compiler used to assemble the AutoCAD application into the executable program.
The first AutoCAD for Windows was released in 1989, and included a feature called AutoTrace that allowed AutoCAD to display and edit outlines of objects in a drawing. The

Mobile development
Since version 16, AutoCAD supports mobile app development. In September 2016, Autodesk released the official AutoCAD apps for Android and iOS. They allow access to the most common AutoCAD features and functions on mobile devices. With AutoCAD Mobile for iOS, users can choose to view, analyze, edit, and perform certain AutoCAD commands directly on their mobile devices. With AutoCAD Mobile for Android, users can create, view, and edit AutoCAD drawings and files. AutoCAD Mobile for Android and iOS are free.
IntelliCAD
IntelliCAD is a free extension for AutoCAD that offers online virtual drafting and collaborating with the help of Microsoft SharePoint. It includes many of the core features of AutoCAD.

Versions
AutoCAD Classics
AutoCAD Classics was a version of AutoCAD that was released in 1990. It was only available for the Macintosh and was a 32-bit application. It was based on the Apple II version of AutoCAD.
AutoCAD X
AutoCAD X was released in 1997. It was AutoCAD’s first major redesign since version 3, which was released in 1989. It introduced many features that are still used today.
AutoCAD 2002
AutoCAD 2002 was released in January 2001. It was based on the Delphi version of AutoCAD and included the PL/I programming language.
AutoCAD X was based on AutoCAD 2002 with updated user interface and new features such as 2D floating views, spline drawing capability, particle spray, better MS-DOS integration, ISO 9001 certification, macros support, and a smaller file size. AutoCAD 2002 was the first AutoCAD release to include cross-platform 32-bit and 64-bit capabilities and the first version with a 64-bit option to enable it to work on Windows 7 and above. However, the ability to import bitmap files on Windows was dropped because of compatibility issues.
AutoCAD 2002 provided a new

You can create AutoCAD objects or modify existing objects. Draw points, rectangles, lines, arcs, polygons, and circles. You can also change object properties or select objects and add a text string. (video: 1:36 min.)
Sketch (new) and Draw (existing) are new tools in the “Tools” palette, which is accessible from the Draw menu. Sketch is a freehand drawing tool, while Draw creates a line, circle, rectangle, polygon, or arc. Sketch and Draw are intended to be used together with other drawings. The object created in Sketch or Draw remains in the current drawing. You can add annotations to the drawing that appear on top of the sketch and you can modify the object created in Sketch or Draw.
Sketch (new) and Draw (existing) are not appropriate for use with the “Basics” palette, which contains objects that are designed for use in a set of “corresponding” drawings or data sets. The type of annotation is not appropriate for these objects. For example, if you place a node in Sketch, it will be modified in a drawing that includes the corresponding node.
If you create an object in Sketch (new) or Draw (existing), AutoCAD creates a new graph object. The graph object is not the same as the graph you created in the “Graphs” palette. (video: 1:50 min.)
You can download Free-Form Design mode, which enables you to create freehand designs or modify existing designs. In Free-Form Design mode, you can create freehand designs that cannot be edited in any other way. These designs are saved in the drawing as a text string.
If you save a drawing as an.mxd file, you can easily open the file with the “Metadata” tool, which allows you to change the original drawing’s metadata settings. Metadata settings include text, labeling, annotation, and plot settings, as well as the view size. (video: 1:52 min.)
In addition to drawing objects and adding annotations, you can add texts to objects. Text properties are similar to annotation properties. There are also two additional text settings that you can set: the “baseline” of the text and the text color. (video: 2:00 min.)
Also in the “Graph
